Default What is Hacking?

Quote:
Can anyone tell me the most authentic definition of hacking? I would like to learn white hacking (no crime, only for more knowledge).. Can anyone inform me about good courses available on the net and a few hacking tools to understand software security better...
Thanks

Default Hard Work.

Its hard to be a real hacker.

I prefer you read and follow a book named Ethical Hacking by Ankit Fadia if u r a beginner. You can,t learn unless u rely upon these useless tools.

You can visit security search engine www.astalavista.com and try www.neworder.box.sk for tools and utilities ranging from port scanners to fake mailers etc.

Also its not a simple work to be a hacker.U need to work hard, there are no courses in india for that as i know. Also u have to read 3000 texts named RFCs,each RFC contain 20-30 pages. You have to learn them all by heart to be a true hacker.

Its really very hard but its interesting job.

Now, hacking is different from cracking.
Hacking, also called Ethical Hacking, is done to test the security of the computer systems by breaking into it, like the real attacks, but no damage is made, this is to evaluate the security and then ethical hackers report it back to the owners.
But in Cracking, crackers break into the system to deliberately make damages to it.

Actually, Rooman Technologies has a course called EC Certified Ethical Hacking , in which some of the tips/tricks/methods used by the true blue hackers are taught, like DDos, System Hacking, Hackin WebServers, Session Hacking and more.

Reading books and trying/experimenting them on a system is the only way to become proficient in Hacking.........

You might be bored initially but once you master the basics, hacking can be fun. If you ask me, the best way to learn hacking is to stay informed about the latest IE, outlook, Win XP exploits and most importantly: experimenting.

You don't have to deface a site to understand a particular exploit/trojan works. Just test it out on your friends (with their permission of course).

hacking is nothing but curiosity One cannot teach you to be a hacker. You just are a hacker or you arent

Default I wrote WHITE HACKING..

I asked in the beginning about White Hacking and nothing else.. HACKING is not all illegal.. Software giants employ hackers to find loopholes in their software which can be fixed there by enabling stronger security of the software... GROW UP !

why are u being soo difficult ?
did u see alwwyns complete post?
he quoted ravinder and then stated the rules
clearing meaning that RAVINDER broke the rule while talkin abt TROJANS and encouraging it
so why dont u take ur time and read the post carefully before u go on a rampage ?

btw it isnt white hacking .. its called ethical hacking
and yes it is not illegal .. and there are courses offered in institutes as well
so do a little more research outside and on the net

TheRaven, that is a bad defination of a hacker. One of the greatest hackers of our time, Kevin Mitnick, wrote in his book - "The Art Of Deception"

...Back then we used the term hacker to mean a person who spent a great deal of time tinkering with hardware and software, either to develop more efficient programs or to bypass unnecessary steps and get the job done more quickly...

So there is a definite difference between a hacker and a cracker. A hacker is considered a security specialist. He is one who protects a system using the knowledge he has while a cracker has the same knowledge as the hacker but he uses it for malicious purposes.

The definition that google or whatever gave you is that of cracking and NOT hacking.

Well, I feel allwyndlima is right! Guys, plz understand that all you can discuss here is white hacking.. OR I will need 2 close this page... Plz..... Thanks, allwyndlima I think you are right.... Plz don't point to illegal sites.. I only pointed out this topic so that people might find out the real essence of what HACKING is and even use it to help others... Plz don't discuss anything regarding trojans, warez, etc.. Well, these analogue novices need 2 surely put in their brains....
Use your brain and make the topic more interesting, not illegal....
