how can this be achieved how can i connect a cctv to my desktop and have it store the vdo for say the past 12hrs ...

Are you talking about Closed Circuit television?
You can use any good quality webcam. Buy an USB extension cable and place the Webcam where you want. There are some Softwares available that are capable of taking a photo at certain time intervals (say 5 seconds) for the sake of saving space. Or else you can use continuous video recording.


But the better option is to search for CCTV cameras available in the market. U can buy a TV tuner card with recording function.
