Default writer woes

my Verbatim CD-Writer is no longer burning CDs! When i try to burn a CD using Nero Burning ROM Ultra 6, i get a msg. saying the CD is burnt successfully, but it is not getting burnt at all! I tried a s/w (CDBurner XP Pro 3) included in Digit Jan 2005 which gives the foll. error: "A flaw exists in the Power Calibration Area(1048)..." Help GUYS!

my writer is 14 months old. i am using an athlon XP 2400+, 256 DDR, Win XP.

P.S. I tried changing the make of the CD-r but to no avail

"Sometimes" it is a software problem, but you have to reinstall everything from scratch to fix it. IF you can try the drive out on another machine first. It it does the same thing then it could be a hardware problem. Like maybe bad cd's or dirty head.
