Default RAM buying

I have a mercury mobo @266 (845GLM) with 128 ram ddr (brand mercury).
want to but a 512 stick.
Local dealer say ram less than @400 are not avaliable locally.

Will 512ram @400 will be compatible with my old 128 ram @333 ram.

Suggest price for 512 ddr @400 with price and Ram.
I am going to buy a ram soon.

u can check for a fake ram by looking up the IC no from the chip array on the ram module on the website of the chip producer like www.hynex.com

the only way to be sure to buy non-fake ram is to buy from a trusted reseller.

Yes it will be compatible but both sticks will run @ 333mhz.

The better option would be to dispose your old 128mb stick and have only 512 mb running at 400MHZ for the performance boost.

Note: if your work involves a lot of video editing or cad work then keep both sticks. [you need more memory not faster speeds]

Price @street: 2400

you can always get the model name/no. of the ram module and look up on the net to see if that is backward compatible. also if yes then it will be easier to updrade in the future. u wont have to change the ram when u upgrade ur mobo.
