I have bought a pentium 4 prescott with 1 MB cache and stuff like that. Now, the dealer gave me an Original Intel 845 Board. I thought an 865 would be better. Can anyone suggest if I should stick to the current 845 or go in for the 865 at an additional cost of 1500? Is it really worth it? And I am using it for normal computing tasks, none of that gaming stuff.
[in this post I = my friend. I'm not stupid to buy an intel]

first of all there is nuthin wrong with intel boards
except for limited or no overclocability and very basic features
second 845 is dead
with 865 ull get features like agp 8x support and support for ddr 400 ram modules
also sata support on select models ( or is it all models ? )
hmm

Thanks for you tip Raven. But I didn't mean that I am not stupid for buying an intel board, I meant I would rather buy an AMD. I have a P4 1.6 with an intel board (845) and it has not given me a single problem for two years now (3 years?).
So the question is (please "answer" this question), whether my friend should change the board to 865 for an added cost of 1500 or not? Or maybe an 875?
865 (or 875) is more future proof than 845.It's better to upgrade and it's better to go for an 865 mobo, since 875 ones dont have onboard AGP.(865 has both AGP 8X slot and Onboard AGP).Go for Intel D865GBF.
ah
now i agree with u on the AMD point
875 probably wont be worth it
865 is ur best bet ... for ur class of processor
i repeat 845 is completely dead
get rid of it
@pradeep he already got the processor so it wont fit in a 915 mobo now will it ?
