Ask BSNL to give 8mbps speed. That way we can finish our downloads soon & also save electricity.

Re: Save Electricity ! ! !
as everybody knows monitors consume very much amount of electricity
so basic is to switch off the monitor
& if u dont need to use PC for some time than it better
to make it standby or use hibernate comand for shutdown

I have a Intel Dg965Wh Motherboard which supports Quick Resume Technology. So When I want to save electricity, i just turn on the quickresume mode by switching the power off switch in the cabinet and the soundand the monitor wil be turned off while cpu is on and doing its owrk with less electricity consumption..........
Unfortunately, i have no broadband connection, only a stupid dial-up...........

Hey standy and Hibernate are seperate things. With Hibernate, you can actually switch of the PC from mains...same like shutdown..

Re: Save Electricity ! ! !
Best thing: Turn off your monitor and speakers and disconnect USB devices like pendrives, datacables, bluetooth dongles. Computer is fully functional
Hibernate: Contents of RAM stored in HDD. Quick shutdown and resume from where u left. Can turn off complete power supply as it is not needed. So, its like turning off computer.
Standby: Earlier version of Hibernate. Needs low power supply to keep the computer on. Comp is not fully functional or functionality next to nothing.

Re: Save Electricity ! ! !
does standby use cmos battery ?? i just read in articles, that it requires some battery power.
see this
Quote:
|
In standby mode, the hard disk and display are turned off, and the CPU is throttled down to its lowest-power state. However, memory is kept active, which requires battery power, but at a very slow rate. The system will typically switch to hibernation mode when it senses insufficient battery capacity to continue in standby mode
|
and their was one more article which mentioned about battery power and it looses the battery power very fast in standby mode, i lost that article,if i find will post that also. can someone confirm abt usage of cmos battery in standby mode.

Re: Save Electricity ! ! !
^ I think they are talking about Laptops which -in standby mode- requires battery power. CMOS cell cannot handle the load of RAMs. Its a chotta sa cell and will run out of energy within seconds
Desktop PCs use the power from UPS/Main socket (If you understand what I am trying to say )

Re: Save Electricity ! ! !
@ax3
I don't think a electric meter will be possible coz of different power consumptions by different parts. Further configs change considerably and different models have different power consumption.

Re: Save Electricity ! ! !
i think the ISPs and electricity supply board have agreement...govt doesnt want to increase speeds and it can cut revenues coming from power consumption...

Ummm errrr.. A stupid question... A 400 Watt SMPS consumes 400Watt? Or if the hardware requires less power then it consumes less energy? PLease dont mind a stupid question like this........
