These messages usually come when your drive is not able to read / recognise the cd. Also it is possible that the CD's you are using have scratches on them.
Check the IDE cable that connects your CD-ROM to Motherboard. It could be at fault.
If all fails then u better be prepared to get a new drive

@expert No.1

It is easily available near any audio/video shop... It is a cd which has got two small brushes.. All you have to do is apply the cleaning liquid and put it in your cdrom drive...

Cost: Around 40 bucks thats all......

Regards.

U can use a PHILIPS CD LENS Cleaner its cost is around Rs.150/- I was facing the same problem..so i got the CD LENS CLEANER and the problem was sorted out..but also do look for loose IDE cables and reconnect the cables into ur Drive....as this will solve ur problems....

Note: The PHILIPS CD Lens Cleaner contains 2-brushes on its shiny side and there is an instruction manual for ur reference...It cleans the lens and is really effective in bringling back ur drive to butter smooth performance...

Cheers n e-peace
