Well, for a P2P security and IM 's combined Avast is a good free option as it has options for both of them.
If you wanna try other choices go for a combination of Zone-alarm fire wall and antivir virus application.
Kaspersky is equally good but it hogs system resources in its real time protection.
If you can invest , nothing beats Norton.

Wel first of all choose a SAFE P2P software!(I use WinMx which i really great).Use a strong firewall like Look'n'Stop.I also use Kaspersky's Anti-Hacker which is a great tool against Hacking attacks.In addition to these use AVAST.This shud tak care of Security Issue.Believe me from the day i hav been using these not a single succesful attack tuk place on me.
