but 500 mb is too less.. u can get movies wid awesome qualities @ 700 mb using Dr.Divx... Also xilisoft is equally gud.. but both of dem r time as well as memory consuming process..

I don't know what is auto guardian knot, but in linux I use Avidemux to encode my vob to Xvid. If the DVD is good I rip and encode directly using K3b itself

u can use the following softwares:

xilisoft video converter 3 ..
blaze media pro
winavi video converter ..

use xvid or divx ... these 2 r best .... codecs can be much better dependin upon ur settings.....
