Can anyone tell me how much electricity does a PIII, 40GB HDD, 256RAM with 15" Monitor consumes................?

earlier mine bill came around 800-900 but the prob is now its comming 1400
2 of My neighbour has done some illegal work
n also one electricity person is involves in it, now their bill came just rs. 200 of 2 months (also they give rs. 300 on every bill of 2 months to that electricity guy )
when i complain they say u own PC ths y ur bill is high
wht should i do
should i also do illegal setting with that guy so that my bill also come Rs. 200/- for 2 months
or should i file a case against all of them
my prob is
I can take any legal action bcoz doing this it can harm my neighbour n our relations
wht should i do

It will not consume more than 100 watts/hr. So just calculate ur consumtion & amount u shud pay.

160 GB Sata
Intel 945 GTP mobo
D-Link 538 TX (PCI card)/ Intel Lan Pro (alternatively)
SONY DRU-810A
1 80 mm fan
Samsung SyncMaster 713n TFT (On mode 4-5 hour or less/stand by 10hour)
Huawei MT 882 ADSL modem.
Normal kbd + Optical mouse
System Powered by :
1.Microtek 800 VA Dual Battery Model
2.Power Tree 600 VA UPS

this config run for 24 hour....
So what is Wattage consume per hour ?
Or can you mention the avrg running cost per month ?
Any web site link will be helpfull which can calculate my consumption.

I've a near similar config and your should take near to 300~320 Watts an hour for full time ON of cabinet

hah! If your neighbors still have the old fashioned mechanical electric-meter having dials to note the reading, then what the electrician did was 'slow' it. They make use of a strong super magnet and the readings on the meter tend to get very slow(or even completely stop) Obviously you wouldn't want it to completely stop. The electric company subtracts the reading of the previous month from the meter and generates the bill of the current month. To-do or not-to-do the same is your call. Why would you want to file a case? against whom? Electric meter are very simple instruments that just do what they are meant to do and are very efficient. If you get a high bill, you need to see things inside your home and not outside it.

@satyamy: my P4 2.8GHz with D101GGC MB, 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, TV tuner card consumes ~100 watt for CPU and ~50W for Monitor. your CPU will consume lesser than it (say 75W). total ~125W. This means running 8Hours will consume one unit. check your per unit rates from your electricity bill

@Sourabh: does anybody still have old mechanical energy meters, AFAIK these are being replaced by electrinic meters throughout the country

They are being replaced, but I don;t think they have been discontinued. To the best I know, for new connections and replacements - you get electronic ones now. Many still use the old meters however.

dont know now which meters are running
but i m sure that old meters have been replaced

200/- for 2months? it is very cheap. there may be various reasons for this:

1. energy saving
2. concession
3. theft
4. intentional errors in meter readings / calculations

first be confirmed how they are getting such low bills, then you can complaint.

I am using p4(3.00 Mhz) PC together with Samsung 17" monitor and 5.1 1000 watt speakers for about five hours per day. My electricity bill comes to about Rs.280/-.
LOLS I don't have any setting with the electricity guys.

^ it depends on electricity chages of your state. like in Himachal per unit rates are ~Rs1.0 per unit. in Punjab it is ~Rs3.0 per unit. so assuming 5 hours PC use = 1unit (if PC load is 200W),
running PC 5Hours per day = 30 Rs in Himachal
running PC 5Hours per day = 90 Rs in Punjab

(monthly charges for PC only leaving rental charges)
