Default Problem in DVD sound output

I am having P4 2.0 Ghz system with Samsung DVD combo drive. Whenever I play any DVD I get very low sound/volume output. Whereas I do not have this problem when I play any VCD or ACD. I am using Mercury 4.1 Speakers.
I have been suggested 1) to change the Audio cable 2) Install a new digital card.
I have not experimented the above suggestions.
Kindly suggest me the right solution for this problem

Check if your MOBO has Via Specific Sound onboard ...Is its the case that is the problem as they are known to work at low volumns on DVD . UPdate the Via WDM drivers . If you don't have Via ...and have Crystal Pnp Than you can google and find its Driver updates too ..This have worked in most cases./
But you can Find one Creative Sound Card or Turtle or anyof your favoutire.. ( No cheap Yamaha or local 4.1 Sound cards as you are better with your onboard in that case )
Buy it Depending on your Budget. 4.1 Is the minimum if you wannt surround sound. But then you will need 4.1 capable speakers .Everything rest depends on your Budget..

Increase the Four Speaker Volume to max in the volume control icon in System Tray.

well i too had this problem
the volume in the DVD's would get really low
but from what i noticed is that it is not a problem of your sound card or your computer
it eithier is that you have not configured the sound properties properly
or the speaker quality is not good
iam using those intex speakers so had a tough time
what i did was first of all get a new player (software)
with more features then the usual OEM software you get with the DVD drive
then you have to configure your speaker settings in the sound properties
in the sound properties dont keep your setting as surround speakers or 4.1 speakers etc
do it only if you have some good speakers or surround speakers
try getting win dvd 6 it has a plugin called sound booster
this will surely help to boost the sound
