What is Validating??

As every time i access windowsupdate site a pop up comes up asking validating my windowsXP.....

what is it?? is it safe?? what kind of information will be taken from my system & who will take it??

Dun Worry Mate This Procedure Is Just To Check That Wheter U Have a Licensed Copy Of Ur Operating System....Microsoft Just Needs To Gather Some Info About Ur License Key and some other stuff in order to Complete its update process......But Urs Is A Pirated Copy Then It WOuld Create Hasstles for U.....But If A Full Licesed Copy Then No Need To Worry About Anything 8)
