Copy DVD
I have a DVD with a few movies in it.Since it got scratched, I want to take a backup of two movies from it. I have got several .BUP, .IFO, .VOB files in a folder called VIDEO_TS under root. There is another folder called AUDIO_TS under root but it is empty. So which files should I copy(probably as a DATA DVD) in a blank DVD to watch these movies? And should I replicate the same folder structure in the blank DVD?

Re: Copy DVD
one thing i can suggest if u r making Data DVD just use DVD Decrypter to rip the many file movie to a Single .vob file movie... hardy going to take same time as to copy to hdd...
other ways for Data DVD only those .vob files counts...
and if ur system can encode too then as u will be storiing it as Data DVD then to save space u can also encode it to .avi using AutoGK

Using the DVD-writer and nero software, just copy the full disc using the copy disc option.

It seems that ur prob is not solved yet so try what I m saying.
- Just open VIDEO_TS folder & check the size of each file present in that folder. Since it's obvious that movie files will b of large size such as 800 MB or 900 MB or any large figure. Let me suppose that ur DVD is containing 4 movies so most probably u will find 4 files of large size.
- Just open any of these large files & check which file contains the movie u want to copy. Copy that 2 movie files on ur hard drive.
- Now burn a Data DVD which contains these 2 files. there isn't any need to replicatethe folder structure like ur original DVD. Since u r burning as Data DVD so u will not b able to play this DVD in DVD Player. It will run in computer only.
I have told all that whatever u have asked in ur prob.

thx man...really appreciate ur help. Just one question though. Supposing I wanted it to play in my DVD player as well, then replicating the folder structure and writing as a data dvd will suffice, or do I need to do anything else ?

If you want to do this try nero recode which is bundle with nero oem package.
try second or third option which suites you better.here is the screen shot:
first of all copy the entire dvd into you hdd....then browse and recode....in this process you can add your custom DVD menu and so on and it generate standardized DVD-Video format which can be used any DVD-Video player as well as computer.

Re: Copy DVD
I think, you can create a video DVD from .vob files in nero using create video DVD option, and I am able to play those DVDs on my DVD player. So maybe you can try that.

To play it in a DVD player, you need to write in DVD-Video format. Insert the disc in your DVD-ROM/Writer, in Nero Express, go to "Copy entire Disc". Your Source Drive will be DVD-ROM and destination drive will be Image Recorder. Now write the image in your Hard Disc in .iso/.nrg format. Thereafter write it in a blank DVD.

@nil_3
it seems you can't get the question of this thread owner....he try to write the 7gb of DVD-Video data in a smaller size (Maybe 4.7gb disc) dvd-disc.

So either he need to shrink the dvd using dvd-shrinker(but quality does matter) or recode (quality is same as the source disc and standardized format can be maintained) it to separate discs.....If there is a 4 movie...it can be easily encoded into 2 movie(apprx) each disc.

It's OK friend. If U want to play ur DVDs in DVD player then u don't need to copy the entire folder structure. Just copy the movie files on ur hard drive as I have told u in my previous post.
Then run Nero & select the option for video DVD (see the snapshot). I m using Nero 7.0 but previous versions (6.0 & later) also supports video DVD writing.
Now just add ur movie files & burn ur DVD.
If ur movie files r in .vob format the it will take very less time to burn but if it's in other format then it will take a long time since Nero will convert it into .vob format.
Since u r copying movie files from a DVD so most probably they r in .vob format. So just go on & ask freely if u face any other prob.
