Help needed in connecting to pcs....

hi der everyone....

well i have a desktop compaq wid win 98 installed on it and having some imp data on it...which i need urgently......i wuld like to trnsfer all my data to my pc.....can u help me wid connectin both of dem the laptop has win xp in it....if der is any cable dat can help or anythin plz tell me as fast as possible....
