Indexing service helps in speeding up your file searches. If you have a lot of data on your system or if your system data is disorganized, and you find yourself regularly using the search feature, it is recommended to have all partitions indexed. Otherwise, you can turn off indexing... Turning it off will possibly lead to a minor increase in performance, though this may not be appreciable...

What indexing service do is to catalog each and every file present in you hdd. when you search for a file windows search for it in this catalog thus giving you lightning fast results (rather than searching it in the Hdd).but it has some drawbacks (depends on user to user ), will cause overhead as it has to catalog everything thus makig pc a bit slow.

and enabling "Indexing Service" Option in Every Drive alone wont do it, one must have "Indexing Service" enabled( from services.msc) and running for it to serve its purpose.

if you have tons of tons of tons of tons of tons of tons of files in your hdd which needs to be searched on regular basis, then use this usefull feature

if u are not a search maniac then you can safely turn the indexing service off( from services.msc).

Though Indexing Service makes searches faster, but sometimes it makes computer very very slow, while indexing files it eats a lot of resources.

Thumbs down Re: Indexing Service.....?

Yup... off the indexing service, it sucks.
Resource wastage, if u know where u put ur acorns.

But no need of NLite or stuff like that.

It's a Windows service and can be disabled by running services.msc
In the window opened, hunt for Indexing Service, double-click it.
In the General tab, in the Start-up type, mark Disabled. Close.

Kaam khatam.

indexing makes your searches way faster. So, if you need to search a particular drive frequently or u contain a lot of ebooks and need to search it regularly etc..then you would like to have indexing enabled for that particular drive.
