HDD formattin prob......

i hv a 160gig hdd, wich got a partition of 40gb only 4 movies. but 4 past few days its bcom a bit unresponsive. wen i tried 2 format it, i got tthis error:

Windows was unable to complete the format

also, wen i tried d same frm the command prompt, i got this error:

Cannot open volume for direct access.


wat do i do? wats rong wit my hdd? n wat abt my movies??????????

Dont panic, I have a partiton of 66 GB !! For ur problem, it seems that the files on that partition were being used when u tried to format it! Either the page file was located there or u were playing some media file locate in that partition or something like that!
Be sure that the partition is not being used in neway before formatting!

@gaurav : U may try using the format tool in control panel > admistrative service > computer management then!
