You have not been specific enough about some items to give prices or an evaluation.

A64 3000+ = 7.7k, good for its price.
Asus mobo = which model ?
Samsung HDD = 2.8k. Personally, I find Seagate drives to be more reliable.
512MB DDR = 4.2k. Go for DDR400
GeForce 256MB .... you have to specify the GPU
17" monitor .... price and quality varies widely. Viewsonic is highly regarded, but is not available in many places. I'm quite satisfied with a Samsung 793MB (flat-tube Magic Bright - 8k)

Hi,
Socket 754 combinations work in single channel..so it doesn't matter if you have 2 sticks of 256 or 1 of 512.

Am i right.?

30K for a new PC and u want a 64 bit system ?? Thats gonna be really tuff and you can just abt manage to get one. I think blade and raven posted a config based on the 64 bit processortrs socker 754. With a topic something like config for 30k or something search for it.

You can get a good Athlon based system for 30K tho....

By "AMD Athlon", I take it you've shifted from your initial targetting of a 64-bit system and are now aiming for an Athlon XP, right ? I and others have posted similar recommendations before, but here it is in a nutshell :

Athlon XP 2600+ = 4.6k
Krypton C18G-400 mobo = 4.1k
FX5700/128MB gfx card = 6k
2x256MB DDR400 = 4.2k
80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm HDD = 2.8k
Liteon CD-ROM drive = 0.7k
Sony FDD = 0.3k
Cabinet with front USB & audio ports = 1.3k
Keyboard + entry-level optical mouse = 0.7k
Samsung 793S monitor (17" non-flat) = 5.9k
2.1 speakers = 1k

Total = 31.6k.

If you want a CD-writer instead of a plain CD drive, add another 0.9k.

Prices vary from city to city and even shop to shop, so these prices are only a guide.

Default Still AMD 64

I am still planning to go for a AMD 64+ 3000. However I plan to plan the graphics card after 2 to 3 months. But I am unable to find ASUS motherboard with full ATX features that has a onboard display card. Do you guys have any suggestions

Also, if not asus which are the other good and compatible motherboards

AFAIK (and that knowledge may be outdated because things are changing rapidly in the 64-bit world), there are still no 64-bit mobos with good onboard graphics. The best available seems to be S3 Unichrome graphics which is good OK for surfing and other non-demanding applications.

Asus does have the K8S-MX with onboard SiS graphics, but I have no idea how good that is. It has an AGP slot plus PCI-Express, SATA and RAID support.
