Problem with uxtheme

Hi,

I read a post on using the uxtheme patcher to patch the uxtheme.dll file so that you can install various themes.

I patched this file and copied a theme from the July digit issue (forever blue i think). Although I can see the entry in the theme drop down, I am not able to successfully apply that theme. Only the wallpaper and a few icons get changed, keeping the taskbar, start menu as it is.

1. How do get to change this.
2. What does this patcher actually do? I mean why is it necessary to patch it?
3. difference between Theme and Visual Style.
4. do I need to make changes to the registry.

I think one needs to run the uxtheme patcher in "Safe Mode" in WinXP. Did you do that?

U need to run it in safe mode, and it allows u to use "VISUAL STYLES" , NOT themes.

and goto downloads --- skins section ... from there you can download the entire uxtheme.dll and that's sure to work.!!!

Download the UxTheme Patcher from WindowsX.org ... It will sure work .. Patch it in Safe mode ...

ooops... I did not patch it in Safe mode. aah! there were no instructions to do so. Anyways will try. Thanks.
