kbps & KBps

All,
Several ISPs claim that they provide 256Kbps. Do they mean KBps or kbps?

I meant - is it Kilo bits per sec (or) Kilo Bytes per sec? whats the difference between the two?

I opted for 128kbps from a famour ISP. I tried downloading a file. it is just giving 20kbps. Are all these connections shared?

I use airtel connection 115 kbps(coonected through cabe (Phone)). my download speed is 3 kbps with IE & fluctuate between 3.5 and 4.00 in FDM. What is THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!1

The speed will be divided for many people.
1kBps=10kbps i think so becos i don't remember so properly.

Most ISP's show speeds in terms of kbps (bits) and what computer shows is KBps (Bytes). And since 8 bits = 1 Byte.... you do the math.

Ok let me give my example, i have BSNL 256kbps connection and i get 32KBps i.e. 256/32=(you guessed it ....) 8

1024 bytes= 1kilo bytes
1024k.bytes= 1Mega Byte
1024 MBs= 1GB ...........

I guess it's Kilo Bits Per Second so when you divide it by 8 u get the Kilo Bytes per second ... simple ... so 256 Kbps is 32 KBps I usually get download speed of around 28 KBps on my 256 Kbps connection donno where the rest 4 KBps go .. but it's K

All ISPs give their speeds in kbps(kilo bits per second) and not kBps(kilo bytes per second)...Is a common error ppl make buy assumin the latter as the speed...

are yaar its so simple...almost all ISPs give the speed in kbps so as 2 get a good no. to boast about in their advertisements.
The download speed u will get is 1/8 of wat is mentioned by ur isp..ie..
1kBps=8kbps...i hope thats clear...
