perhaps the formatted and unformatted capacities. cuz 4.3 is the standard for DVD-R (single layer)

in manufacturing standards of hardisk 1 GB = 1000 MB.
So, when multiplied 4.3 GB * 1024 * 1024 * 1024 = 4617089843.2 bytes or 4.7*10^9 bytes (approx).

OK now divide (4.7 *10^9)/1024*1024*1024 = 4.3..

So you get 4.3 GB on the DVD or 4.7 GB of data as said my manufactures.

NB:- This may not be fully correct, i am sorry if i'm wrong. But I felt this correct as it works in HDD.

I have observed that if you overburn a dvd, especially with nero, there will be no problem in the writing but during lead out will not be written properly. I'e lost two dvds trying to overburn
