DVD-R is the most popular among the DVD formats. Almost all the DVD players all over the world can play this format without any problem. So if possible, go for it.

open the "Device Manager" & click the '+' symbol next to "DVD/CD-ROM drives".

Now if you see your Drives Model, e.g "_NEC DVD+RW.....", then it means you can only write '+' format, but read the (-) format.

If you see (+)&(-) in that model name, you can write both FORMATS.
(e.g."_NEC DVD+RW.....")

so according to this you can decide on which format of DVD to go for.

@Ax3, Buy DVD -R, it's a universal format. Can be played on all DVD players
also all DVD drives support this format. You can check your DVD Writer manual for
what formats it supports. Buy a Moser Baer DVD -R DVDs, best quality &
a great product.
