Default Editing a flash animation..!!

Hi all,
I have downloaded a flash animation from the net. It runs to about 15 mins. I want to edit certain portions of it (just cut some unnecessary parts) and make it to less than 6 or 7 mins.. Is there a simple way to do this? I tried the decompiler softwares and opening the .fla file in flash mx, but the animation contains several 100s to 1000s of layers and files. Its way too confusing and complicated to a noob like me.. Any solutions..??
