Default How to Create AVI files with layers

I am interested in a Free / Shareware software to create AVI files which supports layers similar to Adobe Image Ready which creates GIF animation.

.AVI files cannot contain layers. To keep layer, you have to save the Adobe Premiere Project file.

Adobe Premier ver 3 is a very old version. Availability of its tutorials may only be in old books. The current version is Premiere Pro 2.0 and its tutorials are abundant. Just try Googling. If you have some specific query, you may ask here.
