There Is No difference between This at all as The www aspect is Not of much inportance Here and these are just domain names That are choosen by The Site Admin In whichever Way he/She Chooses to Register and use it with.....Here's The Link For Knowing More On this discussion Mate....

Anything besides www is a subdomain. The way we can have forums.thinkdigit.com we can also have www2.thinkdigit.com. They both can open different pages from www.thinkdigit.com

many sites with haeavy bandwidth usage like yousendit use many domains that ultimately link to the parent site!!!!

so theoritically can have unlimited domains!!!!!!

actually it depends...
you see the same site but in reality it can be diff server also

take example of www.php.net

when try to download anything from there it will choose subdomain for ur country...

for india its in.php.net the content will be same but the server will be hosted in india...for faster browsing for indian people...

I guess they point to same site but different servers !
even Brinkster has something similar asu pointed out.

My very old site was with them

www22.brinkster.com/techdreamers/index.html

I did this 2 years back lol
