RAM Upgrade

I want to buy a new 512MB RAM,so I ask my dealer about it he said that 512MB RAM at 266Mhz (my motherboard supports only DDR SDRAM at 266MHz) will cost me around Rs.2600.But recently my friend has brought a 512MB DDR RAM for Rs.1900.Then why the cost of DDR SDRAM is higher.
I have a Compaq branded PC.

PLease tell me..?

ur dealor is as i think burning holes in ur pocket 512 mb ram kingston is around 1900 only

Actually,i want 512MB DDR SDRAM @ 266MHz,so that it can work with my existing 128MB RAM.I am from Dehradun,& here a 512MB RAM @ 266 MHz is difficult to find & i have a branded Compaq Presario,so my dealer said that he will order new RAM from the Company Headquaters.

Also please tell me the exact difference between DDR & DDR SDRAM,i am bit confused

there in no diffrence in DDR RAM & DDR SDRAM. DDR RAMs are actualy DDR SDRAM
