Default Connecting Two Home Computers

Hello Frns,
Can any body help me in connecting two computers at my home?
I want to share the cable internet connection that is there on one pc and simultaneously transfer the files also. I have XP on both computers.
What would I need...would an extra ethernet card and a crossover cable do the job?

I hope u will help me.

Primaraly of you want to do both that is use internet as well as exchange files then installing another ethernet card makes more of a sense . Coz using USB to USB cable or cross over will just allow you to transfer the files not necessarily surf internet.
Install Lan on both the PC's ...Configure their ip Address and subnet . Enable internet sharing and you a proxy on pc to surf.
