Default jpg error : unknown error

my laptop does not accept .jpg images
It states :"unknown file format"
And does not open the images in paint.
Even in paint there is no option to save files in jpg format .

plz help ASAP.

u can not open jpg files using MS Paint.u have to use softwares such as ACDSee or IrfanView.IrfanView is a free software and supports a LOT of formats.install it and while installing,associate JPEG,JPG files withe IrfanView and then u can open the files.also u can convert BMP(Paint) file to JPG,just use Save As option in IrfanView.

MS paint in windows XP opens and saves jpgs as well as gifs
which OS are u using ?
did u have the option before ? and has it just disappeared ?
or are u just noticing it ?

i have windows 2000 prof.

also in all windows (98.xp,2000) ,ms paint supports jpg images.

yes previously i had the option, but now has dissapared .

we do not require seperate viewer for the same unless and untill u want easy and quick access.

so plz help me out , so that i can view jpg images in ms-paint.

try uninstallin and reinstallin paint !
goto control panel=> add/remove programs=>add/remove windows components=>accesories and utilities=>accessories
deselect paint there
click ok 3ce ...
and continue .. follow it through
give ur pc a restart just in case
then follow the same steps and recheck PAINT ..
now for ol times sake give it another restart and check
