What is Crack?

I know this is a foolish question, but still I want to know What is a Crack & how it works?

Crack is a small piece of program that generally is made so as to bypass all Piracy security measures of a particular software. They usually come in 3 types.

1. Direct EXE replacement:
You get a cracked exe which you replace with that of the original and your software usually acts as a paid then.

2. Patching:
A small utility patches your program's main exes and other files with some extra bytes, or in some cases, removes some bytes and makes it a full-version

3. Direct Serial/Keygen method:
Sites provide a brute-forced or exploited key or even a random key generator for specific softwares, that one can use in the software's "Enter key to unlock full version" dialog box and unlock the full version of the software.

CRACK....as everyone knwo its a tool/ s/w to make s/w work illegally.....
When a program is written....say a s/w, game programmers, testers , puposely have an opening kept in programs at certain points..so that if any changes and/or upgradation is to be doen can be done easily....these opening is used by crackers programs to enter the software......

crack patches software by replacing exes

but my friends got Prince of Persia 2thrones game in which if u double click the exe file ,which takes u to d game, it checks if the power cable & bus is plugged into the cd drive, if so the game doesnt get launched.
so in order to play that game one must remove the power cable & bus connections of the cd drive.
Is this any kind of crack?

Yes. I hv heard of the problem. It has to do somethging with the new Starforce CD protection scheme implemented. Though now a better crack is available .
Now even softwares to make patch is even available, i used once a tool called PatchEngine. It was not very effective and worked in case of very select S/Ws

To hell with Software Piracy, better become a programmer and go for Open Source/Freeware programs.

Games, try Gunz Online, Alien Arena, Legends, great MMORPG games.

Cracking is dumb, waste of time and bad to the world, which includes even you.

I think because there is cracking, software security will only rise. There will always be a bad apple among the goodones. So better be prepared, than live the illusion of "No Cracker" world.
