hey
i think max payne requires at least a basic graphics card
have u got it coz generally wit p4 u get one
also when u start the game u get a confi screen with resolution and stuff check all the options o`er there n if u dont have a graphics card try software emulation instead of hardware o`er thereinternet rocks

Max Payne 1
Try this:
Make a shortcut for the .exe file on the Desktop. Now right click on the shortcut select properties. In the Target box, add -disable3dpreloads after the " & " . So the box will look like:
"x:\--------any path" -disable3dpreloads
click OK and now try.
Nope Max Payne don't needs graphic card I've played it on Celeron-500 128MB RAM & 810i board.Compaq Presario Notebook, AMD Mobile Sempron 3000+ (1.8 GHz), ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress (PCIe) 200M 128MB Graphics, 768 MB DDR 333 MHz RAM, 40 GB HDD, DVD+CDRW Combo, 15".....

i ran both MP1 & 2 on my onboard graphics card , via km400 , one of the worst
in graphis lol . anyways . supports only up dx7 . so not many high end games for .
- run directx , under display see if all options are enabled (ie they should be highlighted and not greyed out) .
- if not available , reinstall dx with new version
- check update for onboard graphics drivers u have
- check if u have option to change memory allocated for video in bios . change it to the next best option . say 64 mb . and increase AGP aperture option in bios .
- try setting all options in game to low and increase gradually if no errors occur .
- disable most background programs b4 running the gameIf you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal... You become something else entirely

The problem is obvious, simply install max payne 1 patch which has a fix for the intel orignal motherboards(this will surely fix it) . No other big problem . ur rig is better than needed for this particular game, enjoy the gr8 game.
Windows 8 ? ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)
I have a better OS installed, people call it Windows7. t(-_-t)

I am able to play Max Payne 1 on my XP with a SiS 650 onboard card. But at the same time, my friend with Intel Onboard Graphics is unable to do so. Sometimes the game crashesin the splash screen itself and soetimes after the first level has been loaded. I think this is a problem exclusive to Intel Graphics family.

A Solution To All Your Problems!!!
Hey Hey Hey!!! All u ppl talking nonsense about Max Payne!
Well I'm have been a die hard fan of Max Payne since it's release and lemme give a solution too all your problems.
1. I've also experienced problems while playing MP1 on XP. Actually I can't say how it ran on an Intel MB, as one member has cited here. But it surely has problems with it on XP. I earlier had SIS 650 & later changed to the VIA Pro Savage DDR and it ran superbly on both of'em with XP as the OS. Two of my friends who had Intel MBs cudn't run the same.
2. Now to tell why does MP1 has a problem on XP. Well, u can see it in the documentation itself. The Remedy says that MP hasn't been tested for XP so they aren't sure about its working on XP. And definitely they are right, citing the case of Intel MBs here. The reason being that, MP was developed during the years 199-2000 and released in 2001. The same year XP was released. So the Beta testers cudn't test it for XP platform. Hence the problem.
3. And finally coming to the patches of MP. Lemme tell u that the patch only corrects some graphic problems concerned with MP, viz. flashing of SysTray icons while loading and gameplay, etc. It has nothing to do with the running of the game.
4. Coming to MP2, there are no such problems at all.
That's it! I'm finished wid my explanation. If anybody finds any more problems after this then he/she can contact me. And in the future don't go out blabbing anything abt something abt which u r not sure. It is an insult to the game itself! Heh!
OK then. Bye!
Zaib.:) I've got my F, C and K . Now all I need is You !!! :)
