since your DVD works on your friend's DVD ROM then I suppose the problem lies with your DVD drive. Try checking if other DVD's are read by your DVD drive or not. Try reinserting the data and power cables. As for the drivers, you may check out sony's website.

@Coolsunny, Sony DVD drives with model numbers starting with DW have some
problems, that's what some of friends told me. You should have bought Sony DRU-820A.
It's a good one. Also looks like there is a problem with your DVD drive. So better
get it serviced.

It could be a media issue too maybe, some 5 in 1s are dual layered, does your drive support them?

OK found it in old Digit thread ....

http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/arch...p/t-28000.html

digiFriend

check which parallel cable you are using. if you use old ATA 40 wires cable,it won't work.
you have to use "ULTRA DMA/66" 80 wires cable.
both wires will have same 40 pins connector, but in ultra DMA cable ,the wire will be very thin and there will be 80 wires, while in OLD ATA cable wires will be thick and total 40 wires.
"ultra ata " 80 wire cable will cost around 30/40 Rs.

2)check that ULTRA DMA support is enabled in BIOS(it depend upon your system bios)

see if it helps

all other dvds run well in this drive. its read write speed is also good.
some other blank dvds cant be detected by it,but it can write on it very well. such as intex blank dvds.
my mobo supports upto Ultra DMA 133/100/66/33.
for which one i should by. DMA 133 may be uptodate. suggest ?
but 1st i m checking my Bios.

@saROMan
hey, i go to bios. advanced>ECP mode dma channel.. its default setting is DMA3
Also open cpu box .. got nothing called ATA 40 wires cable..
My DVD drive connected to motherboard with ASUS HDD cable which has 39 pin socket.!!!!!????
