For a website you will have to first register a domain name. You can immediately host it if you want to use for emails. Or you can wait till your site is designed and is ready.

Your 2nd question is not clear

As for SSL the most trusted one is http://www.verisign.com

@tuxfan: perhaps he is asking "who will be the incharge of the server at which I host my site"
@saro: Well there are two options.
1) you host your website on a shared/dedicated server. In that case, the incharge will be you but the hardware will be theirs.
2) You host your website from your PC (make sure you get a pretty good upload speed though). In this case, the inchage will be you, and yeah...the h/w will be yours.

PS: read this month's (july 2005) DIGIT for more info.

See, if you take hosting from say me or i_kill or XYZ co, you will interact with a person. Right? You can ask that person to provide you info about the person you contact for support. Its not as complicated as you think.

If you want to have a trial of a hosting account PM me. I have already offerred free hosting accounts on the forum. See this http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30182

From the questions that you are asking, I think you are a newbie in hosting. Please don't even think about having your own server!! (Pt. 2 of i_kill's post) Take cPanel hosting (or some other shared hosting).

or if u want just the feel of how a website could be u can go for free hosting too.
there no harm trying a service for "free".
