You need study Core Java first. Then move on to J2EE ( Servlets, JSP, EJB, JDBC)
There are lots of Java IDEs available. Like NetBeans (www.netbeans.org),
JDeveloper 10g (www.oracle.com), Eclipse (www.eclipse.org) etc.,
Getting used to any IDE takes some time, also stick to one. Since the procedure
varies from IDE to IDE!!
You need the following PC configuration:
1 GHz Processor , 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HD, NVidia GC (Optional).
If you have any more question then send me a PM.

Do the front page using jsp code. It is available in windows front page design. Do ur web page using the tools and save it in jsp extension. and run it in tomcat 4.1 server maing the proper database conectivity mainly on sql 9i server, which is only applicable in windows 2000 server.

Use Sun's Java Studio Creator 2. It's a RAD tool. You can build websites fast.
Really fast!! Download it from here:
You need to join SDN (Sun Developer Network)before download. So create a
new SDN account for you (username & password) & remember it.
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/j...oads/index.jsp

Tutorials on Sun Java Studio Creator:
------------------------------------------------
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/j...ials/index.jsp

Take a quick tour: ( See how things are done using Java Studio Creator)
--------------------------
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/j...tml/index.html
(Press the 'Next' link at the bottom of the page to move to the next page.
Believe me you can create amazing Web sites fast using this tool.Plus it comes with a database also!!
Use JSP (Java Server Pages) and for backend RDBMS use Oracle or any other one you like.

No, Sun Java Studio Enterprise Edition is different from Java Studio Creator!!
Both are different types of softwares. Java Studio Creator is used for Rapid
Development of Websites. Whereas SJSEE is used for writing Desktop applications,
J2EE, etc.,Using Sun Java Studio Enterprise Edition to build Websites is possible,
but it takes time & lot of effort. Whereas Sun Java Studio Creator is a RAD tool.
That can help you build websites visually!! I think you get the idea.
Check the links I have already given. You'll understand what I mean.

Use FlashGet software it can download huge files. Even if the Net connection is
interrupted or you can download the file for 6 hours today & 6 hours tomorrow.
The file will be entirely downloaded, without any corruption!!

See how some of the top American Universities have designed their Website.

Harvard University:
--------------------------
http://www.harvard.edu/

Stanford University:
---------------------------
http://www.stanford.edu/

American University:
----------------------------
http://www.american.edu/index1.html

University Of Florida:
--------------------------
http://www.ufl.edu/

Wharton Business School:
---------------------------------
http://www.wharton.upenn.edu/

American Universities given in a Map structure
------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.globalcomputing.com/universy.html

As you can see from their sites they are not flashy. Just neatly arranged links.
- About, Academics, Admissions, Campus Life, Research , Services etc.,
You must include more search features like Calendar, Directory etc.,
And these searches must be thoroughly tested. You can include a good picture
of the University in the middle. This is how you go about designing a good
University site.
