Default Connecting Lappy n Desk


I have got a desktop ( AMD Athlon XP 2000+ , Asus motherboard ) with a Dlink ethernet card and also an IBM Laptop also with an ethernet card.
I also have a 2 way LAN cable ( i,e the one provided with DATAONE Modem).
Is it possible to connect the Desktop and laptop thru this cable ???
and wht are the IP settings i shud do ?
( i wanna play AOE in multiplayer mode via all this......... )

1st hook up the cable and enter the IP in 1 one system as 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 in the other and u will be done.....
To be able to share files and access other drives..
Right click on the drive and enable sharing.....ad u will see a hand under each drive........

^^ That's because you need a cross cable, not the straight cable provided by dataone.

The difference is straight cable is just a bunch of 2 or more cables in which the start and end of the wire connect to the same segment like read port of one pc to read port of another pc!

A crossover on other hand has the wires connected in a crossover manner like wire connecting read port to write port etc. Thats why it is also called a null modem.

You'll get that cable for not more than Rs50. Just buy a cable and do as samrulez said above.
