Red face Segate or Western Digital.

Hi guys,
I wanted to buy a WESTERN DIGITAL 200 gb hdd but sadly it was out of stock.

The dealer said the next better option would be segate.

i jus wanted to know whether the performance difference between a segate and a wd hdd is very wide or narrow, and whether segate outperforms wd.

PLease Help

Western Digital currently makes the best hard drives, go for it if available.
Seagate should be the second choice followed by Maxtor.

The major difference lies in Data buffer..most WD HDD offer 16MB of it while most Seagate HDD offer 8 MB. Also check the read/write rates b4 buying. The rpm of most high capacity drives is 7200rpm, seagate cheetah(@ 35.5 GB) offers 10k rpm.
But WD is the best, and now they've started a door-to-door replacement service...so warranty shouldnt be a problem.

Even WD offers 10K rpm hard disks (called Raptor I think, not sure) and those are very popular but costly and not available with high capacities.
