Need for speed playing error please help

I have compaq presario 700 Laptop that plays need for speed 1 at good settings and
Need for Speed - Porsche Unleashed at very low frame rate..
But i cant play Need For Speed HighStakes on it.
It says nfshs.exe is not a valid application

I have win xp home edition
please help me.

high stakes will not run on xp....it needs win 95/98...i have tried it too...doesnt work....EA might have released a patch or something so check their website

i think high stakes is the only version that will not run...im not sure abt nfs3 and the original nfs....ive used all the others and they work fine on xp....

It didnt run on win xp. not tried on win 98 machine because that is pentium 600

also can u tell all the versions of need for speed released till now
like Porsche Unleashed,hot pursit,hot pursit 2, etc
with their release date and also tell their names with nfs1 ,nfs 2 ,nfs 6
like which is nfs 1 or nfs 6

ok...i dont know the release dates but on average, EA releases a new NFS game every year....i mean i remember that i bought NFS2 in 1998...the original NFS came b4 that, the next 1 was NFS3 Hot Pursuit, then came NFS High Stakes, then NFS Porsche Unleashed, then NFS Hot Pursuit 2 (2002), then NFS Underground (last year) and finally the just released NFS Underground 2....
porsche unleashed should work on xp...i tried it and it did work...or at least the demo did...

hey techno, r u sure u need 2 set it 2 run in compatibility mode??? i seem 2 remember that it ran fine without any compatibility issues on my xp system....and the win 2k setting will not run it...xp is based on win 2k remember....win 98 might do the trick...

ok do this:
go 2 all programs and right click the program's shortcut...go 2 properties and select program compatibility....then choose win 98 and click OK...
another way 2 do it by All Programs-->Accessories-->Program Compatibility Wizard and follow the instructions from there....

shoot....well i'll try something else and let u know if i get a solution...maybe you could try re-installing it....i mean, the demo worked fine on XP when i tried it out a long time back....so i dont know y it aint working on ur system....is it a legal copy??? mebbe it is a pirated copy and is giving u trouble....try installing it on some other computer....
