Default NTFS encryption


i recently formatted and reinstalled windows XP pro on my computer.now i cannot access the encrypted files on the NTFS partition on the drive.i had used just the basic encryption that XP provides with NTFS.how do i go bout recovering the files??

You can only access the encrypted data if you saved the encryption key. I doubt you did that because otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question. Without the key there is no way to access the data.

I'm sorry FleaPython but drvarunmehta is right......There is no real way to get that Data back....you should always save the Encrption key ...
I guess that Encryption feature in windows Xp is with a purpose...

Default U Should have a Certificate ya.

Uhh Now Dont misunderstand me

As far as I know, While doing encryption only Try to export a certificate ya.

So that even u format, By Using that certificate.. U can recover..

I will advice as - Use PGP For encryption..
Download from - www.pgp.com - ItS Free

Hey Know what ! Use Winzip v9.0 , Coz the new version supports Password protection As well as Encryption.too

U can have simple Winzip Encryption As well as Hi-Fi 128 & 256 Bit Cipher Encryption too..

i still have the WINDOWS and the PROGRAM FILES folders from the old installation. Is there anyway i can extract the certificate from them?
