Default How safe is the Kensington Lock?

Question of the day is, how safe are these kensington (or other branded) locks that one gets to secure a laptop and such?

I'm doing up a room so I can put an iMac in there. Mom wants to secure the room with grills (ugly grills) but I want it open. Now this is not Mumbai where there is a constant threat of thieves. I'm in Goa and in my village there hasn't been any robbery since I can remember.

So how safe is this lock? Can a thief say, cut the wire with some ordinary tools? Most of these thieves are migrant labourers so they wont be having any advanced knowledge....

Please help cause I hate the fact that I've to put grills in there....
