Are you talking about FLASH DRIVES??
If yes, then you are on right track. They range from 128 MB to 2 GB. Some of then also come with Built in MP3 player, FM & voice recorder.
The 1 GB flash drive with MP3 player costs around about 6000 rs.you can carry any data.Becomes handy in colleges where you dont have CD roms!!

You can safely use PATA Hard Drives(that are used inside CPUs) with a casing(costing around Rs. 450/-500/-) for portable use. Can be connected with USB port of other computers. In case of large storage it is the cheapest portable option available.

you have three options

1.. use usb pen drives and the maximum limit is 4 GB.........
cost is Rs.700 for 128 MB (approx)
RS. 5500 for 4 GB

2.. use internal pata drives with external casing.
they require external power through adapter which is supplied with case
capacity: maximum available in market . i use 160 GB
cost: Rs. 3600 for 160 GB+ case cost 1000 bucks
speed limit to usb interface...
so u can also use old 5400rpm drives with no speed loss

if u buy branded portable drives in this category then they wud cost
near about Rs. 4000 for 80GB.

3..use those lovely small 2.5 inch laptop harddrives
they are light , small , diary size and are shock resistent
follow the same step 2 procedure
cost for 40 GB= rs. 3200 + rs. 450 for casing
so you get 40 GB in ur pocket
