windowblinds is different than the other 2... WB only skins windows... aston and talisman are shells..

i use WB and yahoo! widgets engine with it...

Once used WindowsBlinds.. was not impressed.
then tried FlyakiteOSX, it made my system tad slow...
Now using StyleXP,
Its the BEST!!!!

bt regarding shell switching ... its pretty boring ... have 2 restart ur pc 2 switch back 2 default XP skin ...

Try Vista Transformation pack 3.0 . It looks great with the transparent effects and also includes a skin for WB 5 to make it look like the 2nd beta of vista. U need 512 mb ram to make things smooth alothough things work with a 256mb ram.

It means directly patching the files using the Patcher given by neowin.net or manually too, so no running software/service is reqd. for themes.

I use WindowBlinds 5. Windowblinds undoubtedly is the best windows Skinning app. The reason is that it doesnt need to patch the dll and employs the similar mechanism used by Windows to theme itself (Luna). So it is much faster. It also supports HardwareAcceleration along with a lot of other features viz. custom events on windowframes etc. There are more than 3000 WB themes available out there.

Lately I found an archive of vista msstyles which requied patching the dll and after this I found those styles to be cool. Though not all but a few match the beauty of WB. Overall, WB Rocks !!

uxtheme.dll patch here..with visual styles (.msstyles)

...i don't like UEx (touch 'n feel) of WB... so I removed it, whenever a rockin skin comes in WB area... I'll think!

OK i patched the system files with uxthemepatcher. but now what i am supposed to do. should i directly apply the mssyles. I am confused.

Can nebody explain clearly.

If you people have slow comps then use style XP
There is an option to install the skin but unload the process itself...it will save ram and not hog resources

digit gave it 3 months back i think, but thats too old, d/l the 3.16 from www.tgtsoft.com as it contains new themes

double click on msstyles should get u the theme.... now put an appropiate wallpaper... save the theme with a good name.. and put the name.theme file in c:\windows\system32\resources\themes if u want it to be permanent....

i actually keep my wallpapers where XP keeps it... i keep my theme files where XP keeps it´s and keep my msstlyes where XP keeps it..... but this does not matter, it´s all for convinience... u can keep them on network, CD or removable HDD too....
