Default Help on choosing pc for multi tasking

Well basically what does multi tasking mean? I'm quite confused

I am in a fix to choose between amd athlon 3000+ and intel pentium D .

My purpose are as follows

1. I'm not a hardcore gamer but play games occasionaly. I'd like to play all recent games at decent graphics and sound. Especially fear , quake 4 and ground control.

2. I'd love to expreiment softwares. As such i'd have GB's of software's downloaded and installed on pc. The system should support all this and shouldnt slow down....

3. Will need to give me good quality dvd output and sound...

I've also heard that AMD is not good for multitasking. is it true? And does AMD 3000 offer stablility?

How good is pentium D? any better processors within cost range 6000 and a suitable mobo within 6000rs.

So please suggest me a config and help me to choose between these two.

When it comes to pure multitasking, nothing beats dual core CPU, even if simply using many applications at one time

So, in this regard, I would say that U get a Pentium D 920, at 2.8 GHz it's the best U can get in this price range. Other option is Pentium D 820 but it's runs hot

U cannot expect a Dualcore CPU in Rs 6000, streatch your budget.

Best U can get is an Athlon64 3800+ X2 but thats quite costly

For the motherboard, either get an Intel 945GNT motherboard for pentium D or Asus A8N-VM for AMD

Both these motherboards have HD audio so U don't have to worry about the DVD out put

For gaming, casually, a 7300 GS will be enough, but as u said, U wanna play quake 4 etc, don't consider it to be light gaming. they are high on system requirments

1) a nice joke if u play these games u r hardcore
these games run on much higher end config
2)go for an system with dual core it is the latest and fast enough to handle multitasking
multitasking means that u do lot of much in the same time which requieres a lot resoures.eg u r downloading something from net, burn a cd in nero, listen to music or even play a light game simultaneously.this is what multi tasking is

3)for this there r onboard options available

so go for a Athlon64 3800+ X2-best till date
