depends...on ur usage, configuration.
if u just copy disks and save files, cd writer is good enough.
go in for dvd writer if u need heavy file storage.

You should better buy the DVD writer. The market rates of DVD writers are gone quite down. Who knows that the next gen storage will be DVDs.

Hence, Buy a DVD writer, you wont regret it!!

That all depends on your budget. If your budget allows, obviously go for a DVD writer as it will serve both the purposes.

You know your needs and accordingly it is your decision what to buy ?
Whether you choose cd or dvd writer ,go for Sony or Liteon and dont choose Samsung.

There is no point going for a CD writer now. But what ever brand choose Please donot go for samsung or LG. i borrowed a samsung DVD writer(not used much) from my friend and i have a LG combo and both suck.

Cd Writer 1000/-
Combo Drive 1800/-
DVD Writer 3000/-

If have cash by a DVD writer or atleast go for a combo drive as most new games and s/w (Visual Studio.NET, Vista, etc) are shipped on DVDs.

ALL HAIL BLUE-RAY...jokin
u can get a dvd-rw for under 3k...but a good one is 3.5k.
cd-rw is outdated, wouldn't make sense getting it anymore..
and yeah: never buy a samsung...it drops dead within months..
sony or lite-on are the best..
try the DRU-810A...but if ur budget doesnt permit this..well get a CD-RW from lite-on

DVD if your budget permits If it doesn't wait for some time, collect some more cash and let the prices fall. But still take only a DVD writer

Liteon DVD Writer with lightscrub technology. So that labelling is also easy.

Even after buying the "DVD Writer with lightscrub (Lightscribe) technology", you will still have to use the good old permanent marker pen because you will not get Lightscribe DVDs.

I would say DVD-Writer because within few months you will feel the need for it if you buy CD-RW.
