Default Delayed Start up

I use win xp pro on a amd 3000+,1gb ram system with asus a8n-e.

I use start up applications like Norton IS 05, Systemworks 05, ghost internet down manager, nvidia mixer, windows def,etc

Whenever i start my pc, and log on with my username idm, windows def, nvidia mixer, etc loads normally as soon as i log in. But the norton products wait for 3 mins and then load . During this 3 mins neither the pc does anything nor does it allow me to do anything. How can i solve it.

I've tried defragging but still the prob exists. plz help

Could it be that norton is scanning your system on every startup? Check your Norton Options and disable any startup checks it is doing. I saw it on a friends' system but I don't remember if you can actually disable it or not. You'll have to check it yourself.

This is the main reason why most people dont use Norton. 2006 version is a lot better i think.

Norton AV is good and Systemworks is even better. But out of experience I know that it makes the system slow and very often cause shut down probems. So i switched to Avast. You can also try.

I dont understand what you mean. Pl elaborate. Also what purpose is served by an AV if you disable it when surfing. I myself never faced any problem.

Sys works is very good in defragmenting, regisrty cleaning etc etc. But sure it slows down the system. Not sure whether it also cause hang ups and problems in shut down etc.

norton is bloatware and hogs resources. since u r open, using avast or avg might be a good idea. u will realise however that uninstallng norton completely is seldom easily achieved.

system mechanic is great. just remove its startup entry, then no question of resource utilisation. use it only ven u want to. even tune-up utilities is good 4 dat matter...

personally i use zass. i do not use it ven working on my pc offline. use it only ven i connect to the internet. its very easy to disable/unload completely in one click !

This is exactly what I would also suggest. Instead of Norton AV use Avast. Instead of Sys Works, use System Mechanic. And these two are what I am also using.

BTW pl tell me how to remove startup entry? through msconfig? If so what will be the entry like?
Also tell us more about Zass.

janitha : yes in msconfig there will be an iolo or sysmech entry. delete this startup entry. else open ur sysmech6 > optimize > manage system startups > advstartup manager : search and remove the startup entry. else if u have startup control panel, use it to staright remove the sys mechs startup entry. else use winpatrol to do the same.

zone alarm security suite has been judged as the best internet security suite by www.pcmag.com. its got a great firewall, a good antivirus and an ok antispyware, all three adding up to a formidable internet defense combination. i use it only when going online, and the best part is u can enable/disable it all including its services, with a click ! hence never an unnecc strain on ur resources.
