Default Files playing hide n seek

My friend is facing a strange kind of prob...Wenever he copies some files frm one location to another..they get copied and he can access them frm there. But when the system is restarted, the files are not there bt get back to the original place....he formatted the windows partition n reinstalled the OS bt to no avail...

As he has not formatted whole of the disk I have a doubt if it is a virus in a partition other than the one used for OS installation...plz help me regardin the same..

I don't think he's playin a prank on me...bt I myself haven't checked out his system as yet...so will c n tell if this is true...

This behaviour is possible wen sum1 uses softz like DEEPFREEZE which may usually b seen in Cyber cafes...
