what do mean by denial-of-service attack attack???

my interpretation:

suppose thousands of computers send requests to a server simultaneously

the server cant handle it, right?

so it would crash

hackers put software into people's computers which would target a server at a specified time, something like a mass-time-bomb-attack

thats just my interpretation, cud be wrong though
