Default Recovery of files !

I wanted to know whether it is possible to recover data from a damaged archive like zip / rar / etc.

And also tell me about the best softwares to recover deleted files from HDD.
The files may have been deleted from recycle bin or shift+delete may have been used or the HDD may have been quick formatted.
