Default where space vanishes?

i m having os win xp professional on c:drive which is on NTFS system
other 3 partition on fat32 system(9.35 gb each).
i tried 2 format one partition of fat32 system of total space 9.35 gb
after formatting it says 3.5 gb of free space.
when i quick format it ,it now reads 9.35 gb of free space.
where do all space gone when i format this partition completely other than quick formatting?

Default

diff betwn complete format & quick format

first complete format erases all data + attempts to recovers bad sectors

while quick format only erases the data

there had been a mistake on ur side giving parameters, pls format with the defaualt parameters only.
