Get software like TuneXP to enhance windows performance by tweaking settings...

Run a registry cleaner and remove leftover registry keys of older software...

Remove unneeded fonts (do back them up first) from Fonts folder...

Run msconfig and remove unneeded startup programs...

Run services.msc and stop unnecessary services (there was a guide recently in techtree.com listing what services may be stopped safely)

256 MB RAM is not good for XP systems - it is the recommended minimum... Try to get min 512 MB or even 1 GB...

Also, turn off the eyecandy in XP by making it look in classic mode. 1. Right-click desktop and select Properties, go to Themes tab and select Windows Classic... 2. Right-click My Computer and select properties, go to advanced tab and select Settings for Performance, select the option to Adjust for best performance...

reinstall ur window......best option
or defragment ur disk, they say it works.personally i never felt ny diff

or turn off unneccesary services
see is some useless process is hogging ur cpu

click ctrl+alt+del.go to process tab
here click on "Mem Usage" to see the program hogging highest Mem and see if u can close it

now try same thing with CPU
sometimes it works cause sum nonsense prog may hog up all ur resources
