Go for a Library Management Project or a Image Editor Project.

hey pussycat, dont be a lazy programmer who didnt handle exceptions (http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2006/05/05.html)

Programming is as much artistry as it is science. Dig into a topic you like and build an app around that. And please...learn the fundas...the higher it goes the faster u can code. In the job market we kill for developers who can churn out high quality code.

There are lots of books available on 'C Graphics' . You must study & practise atleast two or three books
and understand the fundas , then only you can become a good programmer.
