Default problems running dvd's

Hello guys

i m having a problem with my dvd writer
"LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B"
I purchased the dvd writer about 1 year ago from AUSTRALIA,
i also purchased some original dvd's of english movies from MALASIA
now the problem is that earlier the dvd's of movies was working fine when the
dvd region was not selected
but when i changed it to india then these dvd's are not working only the dvd is moving in the drive no data is displayed or no disk is shown and these dvd's are working perfectly on my freinds sys having the LG DVD Writer i dont know the exact model but it is a DVDRAM drive.

it is written in the dvd cover that "for authorized use in US and CANADA"
is it a dvd region problem???????
tell me if a firmware upgrade will do the trick???

my writer's firmware version is A300 and the latest firmware available is A306, also tell me if it is safe to upgrade the firmware

also 1 more help i m unable to turn on the dma mode in this drive coz in the
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers tab under Secondary IDE channel i can't find the advance tab to enable dma, it set to auto in the bios, in nero info tool it says dma is off

help me guys

since you have selected the region code to India(Region 5),the DVD Rom/Writer will simply refuse to play those made in malayasia or australia since they have different region code!!updating the firmware won't help you to reset the region code to universal one.

About your DMA query.check if the drive is installed on primary IDE instead of secondnary IDE.

P.S : Please, mention which OS you are using.

be very very careful when u change ur DVD region settings. that's because only 4 changes are allowed and after that u cant do anything

No firmware upgrades, no reinstallation nothing

However the default universal region code 1, may work

for my liteon drives there are utilities which allow u to change region settings , u can try similar ones for LG drives, do a google search
