Default How to determine how much boose will upgrading ram give?

I am looking for some benchmarking utility that will test not only my gaming frame rates but also my start-up time and the time it takes to load typical programs on my pc.I had microsoft bootvis installed at one time but i forgot where i had installed it from.so if anyone know if it came with some magazine cd please tell me which issue because i`d really prefer not having to download it.
My vendor has given me 2 512mb sdram chips for 2 days to test it before having to buy it.so i want to compare the difference between 256 mb and 1gb ram..also, i recently changed my hdd from 5400 rpm seagate st340810a to samsung sp0411n...so i`d expect performance boost because the old one was ultra ata-100 and this is 133 and new one is 7200 rpm! but the seek time of the samsung is 11ms whereas of seagate is 8.9ms but how do i test them? because the old hdd has all softwares installed on it and the new one has the default ones so its bound to seem faster...

You can try Fresh Diagnose for your benchmarking needs to test your performance in & after upgrading your RAM.

Also, i would suggest using a simgle 1024 MB RAM card instead of two 512MB ones. It saves you slots, making easier for future upgrades. There is hardly a difference of 1.5K
